How Aliyu Ibrahim Bello is ensuring peaceful coexistence in his community.
Aliyu Ibrahim Bello a resident of Bukuru community and the youth leader of Angwan Minago in Bukuru, attended a Peace building training organised by CRUDAN in 2021 where he learnt the basic tenets of ensuring peaceful coexistence within his community.
This training made him to become more active within his community and was able to avert a crisis situation in August 2021 when two teenagers attacked the house of a Christian who has been resident for 30 years in their community.
Mr Ibrahim identified the culprits and ensured the community punished them and also got the community to repair the damaged property. Some other individuals came back at night to vandalise the property again and Mr Ibrahim located them and ensured the got punished and also fixed the property. That single practice ensured peace within his community despite series of unrest across the state. The practice might increase the appetite of community members to name-and-shame criminality in the community; encourage justice to victims and ensure penalty to offenders. CRUDAN is excited that the practice to report criminality by community members will enhance justice and peaceful coexistence.
